
ABOUT ME
Vicente Royuela is Full Professor of Applied Economics at the University of Barcelona (Spain) and a member of the Regional Quantitative Analysis research group (AQR-IREA). He is an economist and expert in Regional Science, Urban Economics, and Socio-Economic Development, with a strong emphasis on advanced statistical and econometric techniques.
He was a member of the European Organising Committee of the European Regional Science Association (ERSA) between 2010 and 2021 and served as Coordinator of the 51st ERSA Conference in 2011. He was also a member of the Executive Committee of the Spanish Regional Science Association.

He has been Visiting Researcher at the University of Reading (UK) 2005-06, at the University of Urbana Champaign (USA) in 2016, invited by REAL, the University of Queensland (Australia) in 2019 and the University of Brescia (Italy) in 2024.
​He is Editor-in-Chief of Global Challenges and Regional Science the flagship journal of the European Regional Science Association, and Editor of Springer’s book series Footprints of Regional Science. He has also served as Managing Editor of REGION, Investigaciones Regionales / Journal of Regional Research, Associate Editor of Regional Science Policy and Practice, Field Editor of the Encyclopedia of Quality of Life (Springer), and as a member of the editorial board of several international scientific journals.

He has been involved in numerous European and national (Spanish and Italian) research projects and is currently the Principal Investigator of the project Sustainable Territories, funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation. He frequently acts as a referee for international academic journals and as an evaluator of research proposals. In addition, he has developed consultancy activities for the OECD, the Joint Research Center, the European Commission, and the European Parliament. He is the author of dozens of scientific publications, including articles and books, and regularly participates as a keynote speaker at international conferences. He has also been invited lecturer in quantitative methods for Regional Science and Urban Economics at several universities.
